Yes, yes, yes, I know, I know! You're on vacation. In the Bermudas or whatever. Which is great! You overwork yourself way too hard and I for one 100% agree with your yearly month-long vacations. This is good. I'm proud of you for this wonderful step towards self-care. And it's also really good that you're going tech-free. I don't think I could go a full month without a phone or anything like what you're doing, so more power to ya bestie!!!!!!!! Okay so. Your plants are absolutely ~flourshing~. But I had no clue cactuses needed so much maintenance!! I mean tbf you have, like. A lot. I tried counting all your cactuses - succulents? - the other day and I found I think 15. Talk about a plant parent! I got you a hummingbird feeder, hope that's okay. I just noticed your backyard garden already gets a lot of activity and just - took initiative! I'm hoping to get lots of nice bird photos to show you. I've been following the strict instructions you outlined on the fridge, and I've been keeping up with your house-cleaning schedule too. Lucky for me, the plants are the only high-maintenance part of the house-sitting itinerary you sent me! I know you won't see my messages until you get back to the States, but make sure to take LOTS of photos on your trip!!! I wanna see what my buddy's been up to without me!!!! Well I mean obviously not, you're on vacation and all. Damn, talk about bad timing lol. Ah well, you'll find out soon enough. Anyway anyway I was talking to Yasmin about it and apparently she died under ~mysterious circumstances~ or something. They found a bunch of weird black sludge in her bathroom and in her haird and, like, all over the apartment. The whole building was on some kinda CDC lockdown or something. Like a quarantine or whatever. Because they were worried the sludge was toxic or something But get this! It was JUST her apartment. No one else's. They found a bunch of it in her lungs so she probably like drowned, but the question is how all the black sludge in the bathtub traveled all the way into her bedroom. Since she apparently died in her sleep. The police are trying to keep a media blackout on it and not tell anyone anything, but, like. Yasmin's her neighbor. Or WAS her neighbor, anyway. If anyone knows what's going on, it'd be her. What do you think happened???? Was it foul play?????? Some kinda spooky supernatural thing???? I for one am SO excited to see how this plays out. It's like a true crime podcast in real life!!!!!!!!

The water comes out all spurty and weird. I brought a plastic waterbottle from my car so I could water your plants, hope that's okay. Yes, yes, I hear you, yada yada microplastics, yada yada water impurities. I know you're picky about stuff like that! But you're not coming back till the 6th and I don't wanna deal with a plumber, and I also don't want your plants to die. You're welcome by the way, Avs. Anyway, hope you're having fun in Bermuda!

Listen, I know, I know I'm just being paranoid. The thing with Delia has me on edge. I'm sure this is normal. I'm gonna call in a plumber and he'll tell me it's fine and normal and everything will get fixed and then I'll be okay. But your water's black now. And it's, like. Goopy. I'm not sure how to describe it. It comes out of your faucet, and I saw it in your bathtub, and when I looked out the window the rain almost looked black too. lol that's how I know I'm losing my mind. Rain isn't black. Still, I have to admit. It's a little unnerving. Oh, and I saw Lyle yesterday. Remember that guy? Total weirdo is what we was, spazzing out like he did at our graduation ceremony. He asked me if I'd seen you, so I told him you're at the beach for a few weeks. Not a lie, but not the full truth, y'know? I told you I could keep a secret. Anyway, in true Lyle fashion he spazzed out again. Asked for your phone number. Told him you turn off all your devices on vacation. Then he started screaming and running down the road. What a weirdo. I also know you probably don't want to speak to me at all. If our roles were reversed, I wouldn't want to speak to you either. Frankly, I try my hardest to forget that entire summer, and just thinking about you and the others is enough to remind me of it. But this is important. I don't know if you got the email too, so I hate to be the one to break this news to you, but: Delia's dead. Johns's dead too, but his family wanted to keep his funeral small so the only notified me, his boss, and Molly. No one has heard from Freddy either. Lyle cut off contact with everyone except Daisy the moment we graduated, so I can't speak to his condition, but I'm not exactly optimistic. Look, Avs. There isn't a nice and tactful way to say this. That weird creature we ran into at John's lakehouse, it turns out it's not as dead as we all hoped. You know the drill, avoid any body of water and ESPECIALLY water that's an unusual color. I know it won't accomplish anything, but that should at least buy you enough time to tie up your affairs before it comes for you. That's what I'm doing here. I'm not just warning you, I'm saying goodbye. And that I'm sorry. We were all scared kids, and we let our trauma push each other away instead of bringing ourselves together. Everyone said some hurtful things when we fell out. I don't want to die with that on my conscience. You were a good friend, when it lasted. Goodbye.
